Return to the Cachar Region after Forty Years
Sacred Heart Parish, Lala, was inaugurated on 14th June 2026 by Most Rev. Joachim Walder and entrusted to the pastoral care of the Northeast India Province of the Congregation of Holy Cross. The newly erected parish, bifurcated from St. Mary’s Parish, Hailakandi, comprises 15 Catholic villages. On this occasion, Fr. Abraham C., C.S.C., was installed as the first Parish Priest, while Fr. Marbilus, C.S.C., was appointed Assistant Parish Priest. The ceremony was attended by Fr. K. J. Abraham, C.S.C., Provincial Superior, many Holy Cross confreres, religious, and a large gathering of parishioners.
This is a moment of grace and thanksgiving for our Province as we return to the Cachar region after nearly forty years. We remember with deep gratitude the Canadian and Indian Holy Cross missionaries whose pioneering efforts established and nurtured the faith in this region. The fruits of their sacrifices continue to be seen in the vibrant faith communities that exist today.
