Fr. Roger Marcel, csc, then parish priest of Mariamnagar parish, contacted five Kaipeng families of Taidu area in October 1965 with the help of catechist Lucas master. The seed that was planted there has grown slowly but steadily having about 19 mandolies today though four of them have become a part of the newly erected parish of Amarpur. Though Taidu itself is a small community, their enthusiasm to celebrate their Catholic faith was noteworthy. They celebrated it on 3rd April (Sunday) in all simplicity in the presence of His Lordship Bishop Lumen and a good representation of all the neighboring mandolies. A stone was unveiled by His Lordship and the local MLA Sri. Daniel Jamatia. It was to thank God and all the missionaries for the gift of Catholic Faith that they had received fifty years ago. After the Eucharistic celebration, a small cultural programme was arranged in which gifts were exchanged and congratulations & felicitations galore! With a fellowship meal golden Jubilee was concluded.

It may be mentioned that students from this locality used to come to Mariamnagar for studies long ago. I still remember the presence of a few Molsom boys and one Jamatia boy at Mariamnagar boarding before the communal riots in 1980. Now students from these areas are going to Moharpara, Ambassa and Champaknagar. Although the people of Taidu and adjoining areas were with us for more than 50 years, we have not established any formal school near that locality. Although as early as 1992 we had purchased a piece of land from the people of Singlwng promising a school in that locality, because of its inaccessibility and other practical reasons, that land is still kept vacant. Local guardians of Singlwng are running a primary school there. In this context, Fr. Binoy John and myself happened to come across a piece of land along Teliamura - Amarpur road and with the blessing of our administration. We bought that piece of land (about 10 acres including cash land) in July 2014 at Twichakma, (Twichakma is only 3-4 k.m. from Singlwng). That year we celebrated the Jubilee of our 150 years of existence in the Northeast as well as the Platinum Jubilee of our first parish in Tripura. Taidu local church also celebrated the Golden Jubilee of their faith and therefore, I think that it is fitting to name the school near Taidu   as Holy Cross Jubilee Memorial School. God willing, within a year the kids in that locality may be able attend the school in their vicinity at Twichakma.
